The Frick Collection.

New York, USA

Public will have the first-time access to the mansion’s second floor, which presents small-scale sculptures, ceramics, portrait medals, drawings, and paintings in a highly refined design.

Selldorf Architects designed a major new expansion and enhancement of the Frick Collection. Honoring the architectural legacy and unique character of the Frick, the plan provides unprecedented access to the original 1914 home in the second floor of Henry Clay Frick. Stephen Saitas created a refined and detailed design for the presentation of the permanent collection items in the period rooms in close collaboration with the Frick team and the lighting designer. Glasbau Hahn built 12 highly detailed conservation grade display cases. Being already early on board GBH could coordinate directly with the building renovation team and define necessary structural reinforcements of the floor in one room and coordinate other building related details. A prototyping process allowed further refinement, which allowed a smooth installation with a high degree of coordination between the display cases and the historic room interiors.
