Oman Across Ages Museum.
Nizwa, Oman
Oman Across Ages Museum narrates the country’s rich history, its culture, and economic growth over time while offering a convincing insight into Oman’s tomorrow.
Oman Across Ages brings convincingly to five the concept of National Museum with the scope of an Identity-forming narrative from the ancient beginnings, through the founding of the state, till a view of tomorrow praising cultural values as human endeavour. Young Omanis can surely connect to this sensation-rich and multimedia supported compelling narration of Oman’s history. The project has been many years in the making and is the vision of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said.
The Museum building is inspired by the landscape and geometric profiles of the Al Hajar Mountains and its canyons. The sheer scale of the building is something to behold. It includes galleries, a library, an auditorium, cafés and social and research spaces. The permanent exhibition space alone is 9,000 square metres and some galleries stretch more than 20 metres high.
The display cases are inserted in a complex and elegant design where each construction contributes to the overall narration. This means that each case was a one-off with highly refined details including some truly special constructions.
