Glasbau Hahn has a team of experts who can assist you with complex building projects where a high level of integration is planned or required. Load and support structure management as reinforcement structure and pre-setting management, technical system planning and integration, advice on floor and wall installation constructions, fire wall management and delivery planning of complex and oversized constructions. We are also happy to support you with our experience in the refurbishment of old buildings.
Concept design
Our team will work with you to understand what you want and then verify what you actually need before developing the display system you require. We develop and implement all the necessary performance requirements in the “ display cases “ while respecting the desired formal appearance. We integrate your communication systems with the public, your security and alarm systems, the necessary preventive conservation services, lighting systems that allow easy operation and maintenance, into your architectural and exhibition design to increase the performance, durability and usability of the structures. We can also help you to prepare budgets and master plans.

Detailed design development and scheduling
Glasbau Hahn develops the designs, details and prototypes of a project’s key constructions in 3D drawings and goes through approval processes that verify the target condition to minimise project risks. This enables detailed quality and cost control and the development of a reliable schedule for on-site project management.
Design to cost
Glasbau Hahn offers Design to Cost (DTC), a systematic approach to cost control in product development and manufacturing. DTC is a collective term for various methods and techniques that can be used in product development to optimise costs. Possible objectives of DTC are process cost optimisation, product cost reduction, total cost of ownership optimisation and life cycle cost optimisation. Possible DTC methods are target costing, reverse engineering, experience curve analysis, quality function deployment and value analysis. The combined use of several methods can achieve cost reductions of up to 50 percent in a design-to-cost project.

Process
We are involved by the team of architects from the design phase (RIBA phase 2) through to the technical drawings (RIBA phase 4). This service is free of charge if Glasbau Hahn is also commissioned with production and installation (RIBA phase 5).
Price
The service is subject to a charge if the project is put out to tender and we are not commissioned to carry it out, otherwise the service is free of charge.
If the project is put out to public tender, the service is not possible, as we would then be excluded from the tender for the manufacture and assembly of the display cases.
Material testing
The choice of construction materials on the global market is very limited for conservation grade materials. In addition, our market segment is too small for material and component manufacturers to produce the specialised products we need with extremely low emissions at industrial prices.
Today, there is no legal requirement to declare the full chemical composition of materials. Similarly, manufacturers are not required to inform purchasers of minimal changes in formulation which can be already harmful.
For these reasons, we recommend it and consider it as best practice that our customers test the construction materials and release them to us.
For this purpose, Glasbau Hahn has its own test results for its materials, which we are happy to share on request.
Glasbau Hahn has also been awarded the BEMMA certificate by the Federal Institute for Materials Research (BAM) for the manufacture of low-pollutant display cases, which not only guarantees tested and approved materials, but also includes the manufacturing conditions and the products used in production.
We usually start the material approval process at the beginning of the project development phase, so that we have approved all construction materials at the beginning of the development of the prototype approval drawings. The testing phase is 6 to 10 weeks.
Glasbau Hahn also offers the APU3 filter machine, which filters pollutants from the air and destroys bacteria and viruses. This machine is generally indicated for airtight constructions and particularly when you display objects made of auto-destructive material compositions or very sensitive objects, because in airtight constructions there is a constant increase in concentration up to critical values where reactions start that we have absolutely to avoid.

Design development
Projects always go through a conceptual phase where the technical requirements for the designs are first clarified. As there are usually several client consultants involved in defining the design brief, as well as various stakeholders with different interests, it is advisable to carry out a review based on our experience and expertise in all areas of showcases.
A second step is to review the functional parts, integrating issues such as cleanability, ease of maintenance and durability of the designs.
The third step is to study the local conditions and their impact on the designs.
The fourth step is to reconcile the technical requirements with the aesthetic and formal ideas, using sketches and existing examples. In this phase, we create samples and possibly mock-ups to refine the solutions.
From this point on, we start working on technical drawings in 2D, in which we summarize the decisions made during the development process in order to start the approval process. At this point, the engineering department takes over the technical management of the project. The project development process moves to the project execution phase.

Approval process
The approval process consists of two parts: the approval of prototypes (if any) and the approval of all requested display cases. Our approval process requires a level A approval, possibly with comments, to proceed to the production phase. Our approval process includes two rounds of corrections and comments.
Prototyping
Unlike mock-ups, prototypes are delivered as the first of a series and are used to verify the results of the development process before production of the entire design begins. Fine-tuning for the core of production is still possible at this stage. Once the prototype is approved, all other designs are eventually revised based on the prototype results and then go through the approval process.
Production drawings
Our designs are modelled in 3D using AutoCAD Inventor. After an internal approval process, the design drawings are produced for the metal and glass workshops and the commercial bills of materials are generated, which together give the go-ahead for production.
